We don’t often talk about kid’s books here since we don’t want to have to talk about all of them. But when we do, it’s something wonderful to us.

Ahmet Zappa’s Because I’m Your Dad is so simple that it’s that kind of wonderful. A kid’s book about a dad, written by a dad? We’re sold.

Child-humor cartographers and heads behind How To Be A Dad, Andy Herald and Charlie Capen, made co-sleeping official with their book The Guide to Baby Sleep Positions: Survival Tips for Co-Sleeping Parents. In it, we get 30 diagrams of possible nighttime positions you’ll find your baby in.

When we last checked in with dad blogger Mike Adamick, he was making a crab cam with his daughter. That wasn’t the only trick up Adamick’s sleeve, and the proof is his new book, Dad’s Book of Awesome Projects: From Stilts and Superhero Capes to Tinker Boxes and Seesaws, 25+ Fun Do-It-Yourself Projects for Families.

We love the apps (they call ‘em “digital toys”) from Toca Boca. They’re all so fun – for both our children and us – and don’t contain third party ads, in-app purchases or confusing menus that trip kids up.

Taken 2 – Bryan Mills (played by Liam Neeson) is a dad “with a particular set of skills” who, in the prequel film (2008), rescued his daughter from an Albanian human-trafficking syndicate, using the unconventional tactic of applying his experience as expert CIA operative in a merciless rampage across Europe.

In this year’s sequel, Bryan is still trying to get close to his daughter Kim (played by Maggie Grace), while working off-and-on as a high-profile personal security consultant. When he finds out that his ex-wife Lenore (played by the stunning Famke Janssen) is having a rough time at home with an estranged husband, Bryan invites Kim and Lenore to visit him in Istanbul after his next assignment for a few days vacation.

Meanwhile, in Albania, trafficking kingpin Murad Krasniqi (played by Rade Serbedzija) plots revenge against Bryan, and travels with his goons into Istanbul just in time to catch the family reuniting for their vacation. During one outing, Bryan and Lenore seem to be reigniting an old flame just as Murad’s goons barge in with orders to take Bryan alive. Needless to say, a series of kidnapping attempts against Bryan, Lenore, and even Kim ensues, while Bryan spends much of the movie performing his signature vicious rampage.

A dad living in Charlotte, North Carolina just scored major points with both his kid and the video game community after a simple DIY project that’s sure to please any video game-loving kid.

Andy, who spent a good part of the last 10 years in the event production and signage business, took his skills (and massive printer) and made canvas prints of video game characters to put on his 11 year old son’s wall. Awesome!

Andy first shared his DIY project with Reddit, where commenters were so wowed, that some actually offered to pay for Andy to make a reprint/reframe for them. We had to get a hold of Andy and have him tell us a little more about what he did and why he did it.

Well, if you’re this Swedish Reddit user named Vekturbrektur, you turn your printer box into a train. We got a hold of Vekturbrektur – or Victor – and asked him a couple more questions about his train.

As summer creeps in and people plan their family camping, hunting and fishing trips, a dad’s got to assemble a Batman-like utility belt. Recently, knife wizards Gerber sent me a couple of their Bear Grylls line tools to
play with – the Survival Tool and Pocket Tool. These two tools are great for the camper, fisherman and hunter – but also really handy for weekend warriors and suburbanite dads alike.

Oh, and before you’re left wondering – this is the Gerber Legendary Blades company…not that baby food subdivision of Nestlé. We know: you’re a dad, you hear “Gerber” and all you think of is mashed peas.

So – if you are indeed the outdoorsy type, boy do these Gerber tools fit the job. But a guy like me that gets out only once a year for a fishing trip and spends most of the year as an indoorsy, tech-inclined dad still can get a whole lot of usage out of them.
