PQotW: What Are Your Favorite Apps For Your Kids?

This week’s Podcast Question of the Week is about your phones:

What are your favorite apps for your kids?

No matter the age, you can find apps for iOS and Android to entertain your kid. For babies, there are interactive storybooks. For toddlers, there are flashcard word games. For little gamers, there are all sorts of cutesy applications and games for a buck or two – or better yet, free – that will entertain your kid indefinitely.

Do you like drawing apps like DoodleBuddy? Tie-in stuff like Elmo Calls? How about Angry Birds?

Be sure to tell us how old your kids are so that others with kids in that age group can benefit too!

We want to know! Leave your answer in the comments here and we’ll read some of your answers on our podcast! Be sure to watch on Tuesday, 4/10.

I like the apps that make my daughter do something, like the free version of Finger Lite ( a piano app) or Scribble lite (a drawing app).  There are a few that have her identify animal sounds.

Her favorite, however, is the PBS Kids Player which shows 1-3 minutes clips of PBS kids shows.  She could watch that for hours, if I let her.

Also, she knows how to operate my iPhone better than I do.  She’s 2.

We used to let Counsel play with “Toddler Lock” from the Android Market, until he got too smart and ended up locking us out of the phone.

He also gets to play with “Wildlife animals sounds for kids”

Toddler lock on Droid is the only thing my daughter gets to play with.  She’s only two, so there is a lot more to come, I’m sure.  My buddy from college just released a great game for kids (and adults too) that is available on iPhone/iPad.  Best of all, it’s FREE!  It’s a matching game called “Catch a Match”, and it is fantastic. You can watch a short vid of the game in action on You Tube http://youtu.be/HdFG4paZx2w or download in in the app store on iPhone or iPad.

My 4yo boy can spend hours on Solar Walk and Star Walk. My favorite apps too. Very rare when a parent and a kid can share a love of–well, I wouldn’t say ASTRONOMY. Maybe SPACE is the right word.

My 5 yo plays fruit ninja while looking at me instead of at the screen and taunts me: “Daddy I got a higher score than you and I didn’t even look!” Tangrams is a favorite too, that allows the kids to solve puzzles with shapes.
