Dads: The Original Hipsters

“Dads Are the Original Hipsters” is a wonderful jaunt through the past that reminds you, if nothing else, that your dad did everything you did before you. This includes wearing thick-rimmed glasses, attending craft fairs and growing facial hair.

Oh, and BTW, those “effects” on the pictures are actually the way pictures just looked back then. There was no Hipstamatic back then – cameras were actually more hipster back then as a default too.

How do we know? Because Steven’s daughter, Liv, said so.

Whether or not she was kidding, Liv Tyler recently told New York Magazine at the Brooklyn Artists Ball.

Steven Tyler, frontman for Aerosmith and current-season judge on American Idol definitely looks like he’s robbing his daughter’s closet, with his tight pants and pirate-like drop-neck shirts.

So, we don’t doubt it. But we’re also not putting more thought into it.

PRO TIP: Don’t wear your daughter’s clothes unless you’ve got a REALLY good reason to do so – one of which is because you’re the lead singer of a band that’s been around for more than 40 years.

‘Geek Dad’ Gets a Movie Deal

In light of the movie industry’s recent thrill for raping the internet of its loves and riches, ”GeekDad” will be getting a film.

GeekDad is a Wired blog, but the movie will be based on the original GeekDad, Ken Denmead, author of “Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share” and the upcoming “The Geek Dad’s Guide to Weekend Fun: Cool Hacks, Cutting-Edge Games, and More Awesome Projects for the Whole Family”. Both books are available on Amazon, among other places. Denmead also serves as Editor for the Wired blog.

The movie will be directed by Thor Freudenthal, whose most recent work was “Diary of a Wimpy Kid“.

Just in case you wanted a summary of the GeekDad blog that reads like a description of a knock-off Russian theme park, Variety‘s got you covered, saying that the blog is “focusing on activities for fathers and their kids such as Lego, Star Trek and Star Wars.”

IF YOU ARE LOVE LEGO! STAR TREK! STAR WARS! PLEASE TO COME VISIT, COMRADE! THIS SUMMER, ALL TICKET HALF GET!

And just in case you haven’t ever read GeekDad, check it out at the link at the top of this post – Ken covers nerdy topics in the computer, comic and gaming universes with a parental gangsta lean – and yes, Lego, Star Trek, Star Wars! SEO!

Ghana Tackles Fatherhood Issues

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) is urging the governing bodies in Ghana to create laws dealing with fatherhood neglect.

John Amoah, the Gomoa District Director of the CHRAJ has told the media that child neglect issues dominated the commission’s 71 recent human rights cases.

Amoah suggested that neglect leads to children becoming misfits – and even linked crimes like armed robbery to child neglect.

The trend may be because of a maternal inheritance system that exists in Ghana, which basically awards the children to the mother and her side of the family.

Amoah noted that childhood neglect is a sin against God. You go, Amoah.
