Need a Place to Change Baby? Don’t Bother Looking in Chipotle

It breaks my heart to have to do this. Namely, because I loves me some Chipotle, and the way I get down on some tasty, tasty carnitas soft tacos can only be described as nothing less than…pornographic.

But it’s got to be done. I’ve got to call out one of my favorite restaurants for, apparently, not giving a rip about parents with young children in diapers. To wit (I know, slap me): not a single Chipotle restaurant provides changing tables in any of their bathrooms.

I’ve gotten testy about restaurants that don’t give a damn about their customers before, but this one really seems like a no-brainer.

Here’s the deal. It seems like a pretty easy thing to just drop $189.00 on a Koala Kare changing table. Well, double that actually. The only thing more obnoxious than not finding a changing table in the bathroom, is only finding one in the ladies room and nothing in the men’s room. What I’ve done (and I suspect what most 8-bit dads are forced to do) is kick in the door to the ladies room and handle your kiddo’s diaper business right there.

I’ve actually had to do that and was not ashamed to get walked in on. On one occasion, the lady that walked in on me apologized and left, only to come back and give me a thumbs up and an “atta-boy” before excusing herself again.

Hell, it looks like this has happened to one dad so often, that he designed a sign to hang on the door of the ladies room.

Now I don’t just want to call out my favorite burrito stop without giving them a hearing. I actually inquired about the missing changing tables from Chipotle via Twitter.

Here was there reply:

Now I’m all about the hip stainless steel look, and form-follows-function restaurant design, but Chipotle restaurants are missing something really important by not having changing tables. Their admission that they knowingly don’t have any – ANY - changing tables in ANY of their restaurants just shows that it is a deliberate decision, and that’s pretty disappointing.

What’s even more disappointing is the “thanks for the suggestion, now take off” reply I got from their Twitter.

Lame.

If you think I’m just crazy, then don’t worry about it. But if you’re a Chipotle fan (and you’d like to see some changing tables in their restaurants), then send Chipotle a note. Tweet them, or send them a message at their website.

Infuriating.  I am fresh off of a strongly worded facebook post to Chipotle.  It’s not an adults-only place like a bar or something, I don’t think it’s asking them too much to put in some damn changing tables.  A shittier person than I is bound to change their baby on a table if they keep that up.
